Relationships, Capacity Building, and Sustainability

Grant dollars are available to tenacious nonprofits and faith-based
institutions that know how to ask and who to ask. Learn
about the grantsmanship process and how to increase your
chance for success - from foundation research and cultivation
to the development and writing of a proposal. This
one-day grant writing workshop will feature:
¯ the important elements of a grant proposal
including the cover letter, summary statement, statement
of problem or need, objectives, evaluation, the budget and
future funding;
¯ the process of planning and research on,
outreach to and cultivation of potential foundation and corporate
donors;
¯ typical questions funders ask when considering
a proposal and the criteria used;
¯ the steps taken after a proposal is submitted,
e.g. site visits and quarterly reporting;
¯ a proposal critiquing exercise and review
of a well-written proposal.
Ruth Peebles, Presenter, has more than 16 years of hands-on-experience
in fundraising, nonprofit management and development. Ms.
Peebles is an instructor for the Duke University Certificate
Program in Nonprofit Management teaching Grassroots Fundraising,
The ABC's of Grant Writing and Establishing an Effective Direct Mail Campaign. She is the founder and president
of The INS Group (Innovative Nonprofit Solutions) providing
consulting services for nonprofits nationally. She
has served as associate director and development officer
for the N.C. Caring Program for Children and is currently
the director development for Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina.
She earned a bachelor's degree in Communication from Bowling
Green State University in Ohio and a graduate degree in Public
Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, specializing in nonprofit management and policy analysis.
Ruth has a certificate in nonprofit management from Duke
University and a certificate in development from the Williamsburg
Development Institute respectively.
